The packaging includes a USB 3.0 Micro-B (the ones with extra pins over a standard 'Android charger cable') to USB-A cable, and then a USB-A to USB-C adapter. The compactness is very important to me though, so I'm willing to put up with the slower speed. Particularly, non-slim laptop-style drives. I was looking at the compatibility list on the MakeMKV forum thread, and there are drives from other manufacturers that are even faster. The old drive, two hour rips was pretty standard, so I'm happy that I'm able to transfer twice the data in half the time. The entire Lost World disc at 60GB is taking under an hour, and it was very rare that I would have a standard HD BD (~30GB) that would rip that fast with my old drive.

I haven't paid too much detail to the output of MakeMKV but I'm seeing 17MB/s right now (4x) with a UHD copy of The Lost World: Jurassic Park. Pioneer's info on the box says that full speeds won't be achieved on a USB 2 port, so that does tell me that the data transfer rate can indeed be quite speedy. I dunno, maybe my old drive was on the way out before the water spill anyway. I was also able to rip quite a few Disney BDs that gave my old drive a lot of issues and errors, and would not complete. The first time I ripped a UHD BD (Villeneuve's Dune), MakeMKV automatically downloaded a 'HK' file (encryption keys), and then I was off to the races. It just works out of the box with MakeMKV, I haven't had to do anything. And the UHD support is a flawless victory. Many Blu-Rays rip in about half the time of my old drive. But it's kinda not, because my experience with old video game consoles has been that top-loading optical drives are MUCH more reliable. It's pretty noisy, and the top-loader mechanism is kind of a pain (but kinda not) because I can't pull the drive and put it in another enclosure. As an update to this thread, the BDR-XD07UHD is an AMAZING drive.
